Local Laws Review
Consultation has concluded
We’re seeking feedback on the proposed new Local Law
Local Laws are set by Council to address issues and protect the health and safety of the community. Local Laws are regulations created by local government to manage community issues, promote safety, and protect public amenity and the environment, with a review process, that ensures they remain relevant and effective.
Our current General Local Law 2015 (Local Law No. 1) and Livestock Local Law 2015 (Local Law No. 2) will be expiring on 15th December 2025. The proposed new General Local Law 2025 has been prepared to replace both 2015 Local Laws.
We are seeking community feedback on the new proposed Local Law 2025. This will provide us with a better understanding of any current and emerging issues, particularly to ensure it meets the needs of growing community.
Proposed changes to the Local Laws
While the proposed Local Laws look is somewhat different to the current Local Laws, most of the changes are administrative and intended to improve useability and consistency with legislation and other council Local Laws. There are few substantial changes to Local Laws, which is consistent with feedback received from stakeholders.
Key changes include:
Clarifying the definition of unsightly land and additional requirements of long grass on private property
Increasing number of cats and dogs in urban areas
Clarifying permit requirements for other animals in urban areas, such as large birds.
Increasing flexibility for caravan occupancy on private land
